Chelsea co-owners Todd Boehly and Mark Walter are considering selling their shares in the club, a move that could reshape the ownership structure less than four years after their consortium took control.
Exploratory Talks Underway
The pair have held discussions with advisers about a potential sale of their combined stake, which would sever their ties with Clearlake Capital, the private equity firm that owns the majority of the club. According to sources familiar with the matter, the talks are at an early stage and no decision has been made.
Ownership Background
Boehly and Walter, alongside Clearlake, acquired Chelsea in 2022 for £4.25bn, ending Roman Abramovich's 19-year reign. Boehly, who serves as chairman and sporting director, and Walter, a minority investor, have been involved in the day-to-day running of the club. Clearlake holds a 61% stake, while Boehly and Walter together own about 39%.
Potential Implications
A sale would likely trigger a change of control at Stamford Bridge, potentially attracting interest from other investors. However, no formal process has been launched, and the situation remains fluid. The club has declined to comment on the reports.
