Stockport Pub Named Best for Families Finalist After £400k Refurb

The Puss in Boots pub in Offerton, Stockport, has been named a finalist in the Best Pub for Families category at the Great British Pub Awards 2026, following a major £400,000 refurbishment. The pub, located on Nangreave Road, is the only venue in the North West to make the shortlist of six finalists.

Refurbishment and Recognition

After a three-week closure in May, the pub reopened with a complete makeover led by Fusion By Design. The renovation retained the pub's traditional character while adding soft lighting, layered textures, warm panelling, luxurious seating, and a refreshed bar area with antique mirrors and brass fittings. The Puss in Boots, run by Almond Family Pubs in partnership with Robinsons Brewery for 16 years, has been a community hub since the 1970s.

Following two rounds of judging, the venue was recognized for its family focus, which includes a children's play area with safe, soft-surface flooring and playground equipment, indoor and outdoor seating, and dog-friendly policies from Monday to Saturday.

Family-Friendly Features

The pub offers a carvery every day from 12pm, a seasonal menu, and a new summer menu. Starters include Battered Cod Tacos, Chilli & Garlic King Prawns, and Southern Fried Chicken Goujons. Main courses feature Teriyaki Salmon Bowl, Shawarma Pulled Lamb Flatbread, Spinach & Ricotta Ravioli, and pub classics like lasagne, burgers, fish and chips, curries, and steaks. There are also No Gluten Ingredients, vegetarian, and vegan options.

The children's menu, priced at £8.50 for a main and two sides, includes grilled chicken, beef burgers, battered cod, mac 'n' cheese, pesto pasta, chicken goujons, and lasagne. Starters from £3 include cheesy garlic bread, tomato soup with toasted bread, and corn ribs.

Drinks and Atmosphere

The pub serves barista-style coffee from 10am daily, along with Robinsons' beers, wines, fizz, and 'Taste of Summer' cocktails such as Tom Collins, Espresso Martini, Pimms, and Paloma, plus a variety of gin and tonics. The beer garden is a popular spot for al fresco dining.

According to the pub's management, the venue has evolved from a 'drinkers' pub' to a community treasure, with regular quiz nights and a focus on family-friendly dining. The Puss in Boots is part of the same group as Fletcher Arms in Denton, Spread Eagle in Romiley, Jolly Sailor in Davenport, and The Station House in Cheadle Hulme.
