Filming on Robson Green's new BBC drama The Northumbria Mysteries continued on Wednesday as a well-known pub in Whitley Bay was taken over. The Red Lion in Earsdon hosted the cast and crew for a day of shooting, with the pub sharing glimpses on Facebook.
Pub Transformed into TV Set
The Red Lion posted: 'What an incredible day here at The Red Lion! We were delighted to welcome the cast and crew of a brand-new BBC drama, who spent the day filming at the pub. It was fantastic to see our newly refurbished restaurant transformed into a TV set, with parts of our beautiful beer garden also featured! Here are just a few shots I was allowed to capture whilst not giving to much away.'
The pub teased that regulars would be able to see them on TV next year, prompting excited reactions from locals. One commented: 'Sounds intriguing. Will look forward to seeing this...' while another asked: 'Is this why there's loads of TV vans parked up at John Spence school?'
Star-Studded Cast
Robson Green plays Joe Ruby, an ex-convict and gambler who teams up with Oxford-educated DI Rose O'Connell, played by Liz White. Co-stars include former Coronation Street actor Chris Gascoyne.
Earlier filming has taken place in Rothbury, Alnwick, and Seahouses. The drama is highly anticipated following the end of Vera in early 2025.
