Friez and Burgz, the popular burger chain on 162-164 Whitley Road, has applied for a full-week alcohol licence. The proposed licence would allow the sale of alcohol from 9am to 10.30pm, Monday to Sunday.
Conditions of the Licence
Under the proposed operating schedule, alcohol will only be served to seated customers who are eating a meal, and no off-sales are permitted. The last sale would be half an hour before closing, with a 30-minute drinking-up period.
To meet licensing requirements, the restaurant plans to introduce a refusal log to record rejected alcohol sales. A CCTV system will be installed, and footage will be made available to Northumbria Police.
Challenge 25 Policy
Staff will be trained to enforce a 'Challenge 25' policy, meaning anyone who appears under 25 must provide photographic ID.
Location and Council Policy
Friez and Burgz is in North Tyneside Council's Cumulative Impact Assessment (CIA) area, which covers areas with a high concentration of licensed premises, such as parts of Whitley Bay and Tynemouth. Applicants must demonstrate that an additional or varied licence would not negatively impact the area. The CIA is not a blanket ban, and applications are still considered by the local authority.
The chain operates across the North East, from Forest Hall to Chester-le-Street.
