Proposal on Hold: 'She Needs to Grow Up,' Says Agony Aunt

A man is reconsidering proposing to his girlfriend of three years because he believes she needs to 'grow up' and stop sulking over minor issues. Writing to agony aunt Coleen Nolan, the 29-year-old explained that while he has thought about marriage, he keeps waiting for her to appreciate her fortunate circumstances.

Attitude 'Stinks' Despite Good Fortune

The reader described his girlfriend as having 'everything going for her' – a good family, good looks, a fun job, and many friends – yet 'nothing is ever good enough.' He cited a recent hotel stay where they were offered a free upgrade to a rooftop suite, but she complained the bathroom was too small and 'sulked the whole time.'

He added that her 'glass is always half empty' and that she sometimes acts 'really spoilt,' attributing this to her being an only child whose parents catered to her every whim.

Coleen's Advice: Don't Propose Yet

In response, Coleen advised against getting engaged while he feels this way. 'Propose when you are sure and the timing feels right,' she wrote. She suggested he take time to share experiences and grow together, noting they are both still young.

Coleen also encouraged honest communication, saying that if she acts like a 'petulant child,' he should call it out. 'It's supposed to be an equal partnership and you have to be able to communicate honestly,' she added.

Addressing Doubts Before Marriage

She warned that a wedding certificate won't make his doubts disappear. 'Before you go into marriage, it's so important to confront any issues or doubts, so you can walk down that aisle feeling truly happy,' she said.
