Kilmarnock Pizzeria to Sell £2 Pizzas for Charity Fundraiser

An award-winning Kilmarnock pizzeria is set to sell its authentic Neapolitan pizzas for just £2 to raise funds for a local hospital. A Slice, located on Titchfield Street, will offer its most popular varieties—margherita and pepperoni—at the heavily discounted rate on Wednesday, July 29, between 6pm and 9pm, with all proceeds going to Crosshouse Hospital.

Chef Carmine Barretta's Charity Initiative

Chef Carmine Barretta, who runs A Slice, expressed his hope that the fundraiser will generate vital funds for a worthy cause. “We're selling margherita and pepperoni pizzas between 6pm and 9pm for only £2 on Wednesday, July 29—collection only,” Barretta told Ayrshire Live. “I wanted to do this because we like to give something back to charity every year, whether that's giving back to the homeless or the hospital. And this year we decided we'd give something back to the hospital.”

Barretta added, “I'm hoping people can finish their work and come by for a pizza and help raise some funds for Crosshouse Hospital.” The event is set to take place later this month, with the pizzeria expecting strong community support.

Award-Winning Pizzeria with Italian Heritage

A Slice is widely regarded as one of Ayrshire's best pizzerias, having been crowned the best in Scotland at the annual Italian Awards in 2023. Since opening in September 2022, the takeaway has built a reputation for using high-quality ingredients, including tomatoes, cheese, flour, and meats imported directly from Italy. The dough for the pizzas requires 14 hours to rest before being rolled, following a recipe passed down from Carmine's Nonna, who used to sell these pizzas on the streets of Naples.

For the past four years, Carmine has been sharing authentic Neapolitan pizza with the foodies of Ayrshire, continuing his grandmother's legacy. The business was originally co-founded by Carmine and hospitality manager Simonas Griauzde, but Carmine confirmed that Simonas is no longer involved with the company.

Community Impact and Fundraising Goals

The fundraiser aims to provide affordable pizzas while supporting Crosshouse Hospital, a key healthcare facility in the region. By offering pizzas at a fraction of their usual price, Barretta hopes to attract a large number of customers and maximize donations. The event is collection-only, encouraging locals to stop by after work and contribute to the cause.

A Slice's commitment to charity reflects a broader trend among local businesses in Ayrshire to give back to the community. The pizzeria's previous initiatives have included support for homeless charities, and this year's focus on the hospital underscores the importance of healthcare funding.
