Newcastle End Away-Day Blues with 4-1 Thrashing of Woeful Everton
Newcastle crush Everton 4-1 to end away-day blues

Thiaw's Lightning Strike Sets Tone for Newcastle Rout

Newcastle United emphatically ended their long wait for a Premier League away victory, dismantling a lacklustre Everton side 4-1 at Goodison Park on Saturday, 29th November 2025. The Magpies, who had not won on the road in the league since April, were gifted a dream start when Malick Thiaw scored after just 55 seconds, the fastest goal of the season.

The hosts showed none of the fight that characterised their 10-man win at Old Trafford just days earlier, with defensive errors plaguing their performance from the outset. The first half was a particular disaster for Sean Dyche's team, who conceded three times, leading to a significant number of frustrated fans leaving the stadium at half-time.

Defensive Collapse Seals Everton's Fate

Everton made it alarmingly easy for their visitors. The opener came almost directly from kick-off; Jordan Pickford could only tip Anthony Elanga's low shot onto the post, and Thiaw, a £35m summer signing from AC Milan, rose unchallenged between James Tarkowski and Michael Keane to nod in.

The second goal followed a similar pattern of calamity. After a mis-control from Tim Iroegbunam led to a pinball sequence in the penalty area, Lewis Miley's shot squirmed under Pickford, who was partially obstructed by his own defender, Tarkowski. Despite having periods of possession, Everton failed to capitalise, a recurring issue for the Merseyside club.

Newcastle's third, which effectively killed the game before the break, was a superb team move. Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, making his first league start for the club due to Nick Pope's groin injury, claimed a cross and immediately launched a counter-attack. The move ended with Nick Woltemade expertly lobbing Pickford after being left completely unmarked.

Magpies Cruise to Comfortable Victory

The second half offered no respite for the beleaguered Toffees. Newcastle added a fourth in the 58th minute when Thiaw outjumped a defender to head home after Tarkowski had initially blocked a shot from Woltemade. Everton's misery was compounded when Thierno Barry had a goal ruled out by VAR after the ball inadvertently struck his own arm.

A late consolation goal from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, a spectacular volley from a long Tarkowski pass, did little to lift the mood around Goodison Park. The comprehensive victory moves Newcastle to within four points of fourth place, providing a huge boost for Eddie Howe's side and finally laying their away-day hoodoo to rest.
