Harry Maguire has insisted that Arsenal's superiority over Manchester City this season was obvious after facing both teams. The Manchester United defender, who featured in all four matches against the Gunners and the Citizens, believes Arsenal's defensive solidity set them apart.
Maguire's Verdict on Arsenal vs Manchester City
Speaking on The Overlap, Maguire told Ian Wright: 'I've played both. Honestly, I always thought Arsenal were the better team when we played them. Just because, honestly, they give you nothing.' He added: 'They were so solid. We beat them at the Emirates, but we didn't create much and we scored two worldies.'
The Gunners captured the Premier League title for the first time in 22 years after Pep Guardiola's side drew 1-1 with Bournemouth on Tuesday night. Arsenal's triumph ended a long drought and sparked celebrations at their training ground.
Maguire's Season Against Both Teams
Maguire started in United's two victories over Arsenal and City and came on as a substitute in the defeats. His side lost 1-0 to Arsenal on the opening day but won 3-2 at the Emirates in January. Against City, they suffered a 3-0 loss in September before a 2-0 win at home in Michael Carrick's first game as interim boss.
Arsenal's Title Win and Champions League Final
Mikel Arteta's message to the squad after the title was confirmed was: 'We made history again, together. I cannot be happier, prouder for everybody that is involved in this football club. Let's enjoy the moment.' The Gunners will be presented with the trophy after their final match against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
Arsenal could still achieve an iconic double by facing Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final later this month. A win would make them the seventh English club to lift the European Cup.
