Trump stated that Mendoza called him to apologize for his absence, attributing it to spring training commitments with the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Las Vegas Raiders confirmed that Mendoza was at their facility for preseason preparations on the day of the White House visit. Mendoza had previously indicated he would not be able to join the event due to his rookie obligations with the team.
