Officials in Orange County, California, have issued evacuation orders for approximately 40,000 residents following a leak at an aerospace manufacturing plant in Garden Grove. The evacuation comes as authorities fear a failing industrial tank containing thousands of gallons of flammable and toxic chemicals could either burst or explode.
Growing Emergency
“We are setting up these evacuations in preparation for these two options: It fails, or it blows up,” said Orange County Fire Authority Division Chief Craig Covey during a press conference on Friday. “Please follow our requests and orders for evacuations.”
The incident began on Thursday afternoon when crews first responded to reports of a chemical leak at the facility. Although the leak had ceased by Friday afternoon, lingering issues such as a faulty valve have kept the tank in a precarious state, posing an ongoing emergency risk.
Response and Safety Measures
Local authorities have established evacuation zones and are urging all residents within the affected area to leave immediately. Emergency services are on standby, and additional resources have been deployed to manage the situation. The plant, which specializes in aerospace manufacturing, has been secured, and investigations are underway to determine the cause of the leak and the valve malfunction.
This is a developing story, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
