Trump Promises ‘Good and Proper’ Iran Deal but Won’t Rush

The United States is reportedly on the verge of finalising an agreement with Iran that would bring an end to hostilities, reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, and require Tehran to relinquish its stockpile of highly enriched uranium, according to regional officials speaking on Sunday.

Iran has yet to publicly commit to surrendering its enriched uranium, a core demand of President Donald Trump, who stated on Saturday that the deal had been 'largely negotiated' following discussions with Israel and other regional allies. Over recent weeks, the two sides have appeared close to a breakthrough, only for diplomatic efforts to stall repeatedly.

Trump’s Social Media Statements

In a series of posts on Truth Social on Sunday, President Trump wrote: 'The negotiations are proceeding in an orderly and constructive manner, and I have informed my representatives not to rush into a deal.' He added that the US relationship with Iran was becoming 'much more professional and productive,' though he clarified that an agreement was not expected to be signed on Sunday.

In another post, Trump declared: 'If I make a deal with Iran, it will be a good and proper one, not like the one made by Obama, which gave Iran massive amounts of CASH, and a clear and open path to a Nuclear Weapon. Our deal is the exact opposite, but nobody has seen it, or knows what it is. It isn’t even fully negotiated yet. So don’t listen to the losers, who are critical about something they know nothing about.'

Impact on Global Energy Crisis

The reopening of the Strait of Hormuz would begin to alleviate a worldwide energy crisis triggered by the surprise US and Israeli bombardment of Iran on February 28, which prompted Tehran to effectively close the crucial waterway. The strait is a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments, and its closure has sent energy prices soaring.
