Angelina Jolie's Bodyguard Conscripted into Ukraine War During Star's Visit
Jolie's bodyguard forced to Ukraine front line

In a dramatic turn of events during a humanitarian mission, Angelina Jolie's personal bodyguard and driver found himself forcibly conscripted into the Ukrainian military while accompanying the Hollywood star.

The Checkpoint Detention

Dmytro Pyshchikov, aged 33, was working as a guide and security detail for the acclaimed actress during her visit to the war-torn nation on November 5. The situation escalated dramatically when Ukrainian officials stopped the motorcade at a checkpoint.

Pyshchikov was removed from the vehicle and taken directly to an enlistment office, despite his protests about having a medical exemption due to a spinal condition. The Ukrainian ground forces later confirmed his role, stating: "The citizen, as a driver, was part of the group that accompanied the foreign actress Angelina Jolie."

From Protection to Military Service

Following his detention at the army's Territorial Recruitment Centre (TRC), where he was held without outside contact, Pyshchikov has now confirmed his conscription. In a video statement released after his emergence, he addressed public concern while confirming his new reality.

"Friends, don't panic. Everything is fine. I didn't run away or hide from anyone," he stated, before revealing: "The plan is to complete training and serve in the army."

Ukrainian authorities emphasised that neither Jolie nor her representatives attempted to influence the military personnel at the recruitment centre, countering speculation that had emerged online.

Humanitarian Context and Aftermath

Jolie had been visiting Ukraine with the Legacy of War Foundation, a British-based charity founded by photographer and triple amputee Giles Duley, 54. During her tour, she expressed profound admiration for the resilience of Ukrainian civilians.

"The people of Mykolaiv and Kherson live with danger every day, but they refuse to give in," Jolie remarked. "At a time when governments around the world are turning their backs on the protection of civilians, their strength, and their support for each other is humbling."

As she departed the country, Ukrainian border guards presented the Maleficent star with national symbols and the emblem of the State Border Guard Service as tokens of gratitude for her support.

The incident highlights the intense pressure on Ukraine's recruitment efforts as the nation continues to defend itself against Russian aggression, with even those accompanying international celebrities potentially subject to call-up.
