Roxy Horner has opened up about the anxiety she faced during her wedding to comedian Jack Whitehall, stemming from concerns about managing her Type 1 diabetes. The 34-year-old model, diagnosed five years ago, shared how she navigated the condition on her big day.
Wedding Day Worries
In an interview with The Times, Horner expressed fears that her glucose levels might drop while walking down the aisle. She even scheduled an insulin injection before eating her wedding cake. The influencer now uses a continuous glucose monitor attached to her arm, along with a hybrid closed-loop system that delivers insulin into her leg.
Her anxiety was heightened by difficulties during her pregnancy with daughter Elsie, now two, when her glucose levels became unpredictable, requiring weekly scans. Horner said: 'I was very anxious about managing my diabetes on my wedding day because I was thinking, ''what if my glucose levels go really low while I'm walking down the aisle?'''
Living with Diabetes
Horner regularly schedules insulin injections before meals, sometimes asking Jack to wait at restaurants. She was diagnosed after experiencing extreme thirst, hunger, weight loss, and exhaustion. A finger prick test from a pharmacy revealed dangerously high glucose levels, leading her to A&E. She described pregnancy with Type 1 diabetes as 'terrifying,' with glucose levels fluctuating wildly.
Since the wedding, Horner has shared photos on Instagram, including a puffball-skirted minidress, lace tights, and a veil embroidered with 'Mrs Whitehall.' The couple celebrated at Coworth Park, a five-star hotel near Ascot, where they partied until 2 a.m. and later enjoyed a family break. The venue, set in 240 acres of Berkshire parkland, gained fame as Prince Harry's pre-wedding stay in 2018.
Horner and Whitehall began dating in 2020, welcomed daughter Elsie in September 2023, and became engaged in December 2024. In the UK, about 90% of diabetic adults have Type 2 diabetes, while Type 1 is an autoimmune condition. Symptoms include excessive thirst, frequent urination, fatigue, and weight loss.
