A former teacher has been removed from the classroom while under investigation for alleged grooming. Adriel Bancroft, 33, was the leader of learning science at Murrumba State Secondary College in the Moreton Bay region, southeast Queensland, prior to being charged last Friday.
It is alleged Bancroft groomed a teenage boy between 2020 and 2025, as reported by the Courier Mail. He is due to face Pine Rivers Magistrates Court on June 17.
Principal Liza Bingham sent a letter to parents assuring them the school was taking the allegations very seriously. 'The Queensland Police Service is conducting an investigation into this matter and we will work closely with them to support that process and will share all relevant information with you as soon as possible,' the letter read. 'We are assured by the QPS that given the actions that have been taken, there is no current threat to students.'
Ms Bingham urged any families with relevant information to contact police and highlighted the importance of open conversations between parents and their children. 'I wish to assure that your children's safety and wellbeing are always this school's highest priority,' she wrote. The principal added she would make herself personally available to talk with any concerned parents and support services would be offered to students.
An Education Queensland spokesman confirmed Bancroft had been removed from the school but could not comment further due to the investigation.
