An alleged drunk driver had a sobering experience after getting behind the wheel while more than twice over the legal alcohol limit in South Australia. Jaw-dropping images released by South Australian Police show a large wooden pole piercing the windscreen of a 32-year-old woman's car after she crashed at the Esplanade at Aldinga Beach, in Adelaide's south, early on Sunday morning.
Crash Details
Emergency services were called to the beach at 12:30 a.m. following reports that a Mazda sedan had collided with a guard rail, run off the road, and plunged onto the sand. The driver, a local woman, miraculously escaped without injury. The pole struck the passenger seat side of the vehicle, and she was alone in the car.
Breath Test and Charges
The woman submitted to a breath test and allegedly recorded a positive result of 0.110, which is more than twice the legal alcohol limit. The 32-year-old received a six-month instant loss of licence from police and was charged with drink driving and driving without due care. She is required to appear in court at a later date.
