Armed police are in a standoff with a man suspected of carrying a weapon in Gateshead. The incident unfolded on Grange Crescent, where officers cordoned off the area at around 7:45 AM on Sunday. Northumbria Police confirmed that they are attempting to arrest a man who is inside an address on the street.
The man is believed to be in possession of a weapon and has refused to comply with police instructions. Emergency services remain at the scene to ensure a safe resolution. A spokesperson for Northumbria Police stated: 'Shortly before 7:45 AM today, officers attended an address on Grange Crescent in Leam Lane, Gateshead, to carry out an arrest of a man. The man, who is contained inside an address on the street, is suspected to be in possession of a weapon and is currently refusing to comply with officers.'
